Product Description
This board is a compact microcontroller board with an integrated USB controller, designed for projects with limited installation space. The ATmega32U4 provides native USB functionality, eliminating the need for a separate USB-to-UART converter. This also enables the microcontroller to emulate a keyboard or mouse directly, which can eliminate additional hardware in some applications.
The 16 digital inputs/outputs and 12 analog inputs are sufficient for medium-sized projects. Six of the digital outputs support PWM modulation for controlling motors or adjusting LED brightness. The board operates at 5 V and can be powered either via the USB connector or an external power supply. This also enables wireless testing during development.
Applications include portable projects such as wearables or compact sensor networks with wireless connectivity. Its small size also makes it suitable for small robots or as a control unit in confined enclosures. A USB keyboard emulator for specialized test rigs can be implemented with this board.
A USB connector or a separate ISP programmer is required for programming. The Arduino IDE works with the board, but requires DFRobot-specific board support to be configured in the settings. A separate power supply is required for operation without USB. The ATmega32U4 should not be connected directly to 3.3 V logic, as the microcontroller provides 5 V levels.
Safety Information
Direct connection to 3.3 V logic requires a level shifter to prevent damage to the connected components. The board is not intended for installation in the household power circuit and is exclusively designed for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
