Product Description
An MPPT solar charger with this input voltage range automatically adapts the solar module's power to the battery. This principle is called Maximum Power Point Tracking and extracts more energy from low-light conditions. The 4.2 V output voltage is precisely matched to 1S lithium cells, ensuring proper charging and protecting against overcharging.
The charging current can be adjusted between 0 and 2 A, allowing batteries from approximately 400 mAh to several ampere-hours to be charged. The I2C interface can be used to read out voltage, current, and state of charge and to adjust the regulation. This makes the module suitable for monitoring systems designed to report solar output and battery status remotely.
Typical applications include portable sensor stations that need to operate for days without a mains connection, remotely controlled devices in hard-to-access areas, and small data loggers with remote transmission. The module operates more reliably in shade or cloudy conditions than older charger chips without MPPT.
The module requires a solar module within the specified voltage range. The adjustable charging control requires a connection to the control board via I2C. A protection circuit against deep discharge of the battery is not included; the module only stops charging when the charging voltage is reached. No charging takes place when the battery voltage is below 2 V.
Safety Notice
This module is not intended for installation in household mains circuits or in devices supplied with mains voltage. Lithium-ion and LiPo batteries must not be charged when connected with reversed polarity or when damaged; reverse polarity and short circuits can cause fires. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. If you are unsure about the safety of the setup, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning it.
