Product description
The BC547 is an NPN bipolar transistor in a TO-92 package for general use in circuits and as a signal amplifier. The component operates with a maximum breakdown voltage of 45 volts and a collector current of up to 0.1 amperes, making it ideal for weak signals and control circuits with low current loads.
The transistor amplifies base current into collector current with a typical gain of approximately 200. When used as an amplifier, the input signal can be driven with significantly lower currents than flow on the output side, allowing weak sensor signals or logic signals to be used directly to control outputs. The BC547 is also suitable for faster circuits up to around 100 MHz.
The transistor is used in logic circuits for inverting signals or driving loads, as well as in amplifier stages for audio or sensor measurement amplifiers. A classic application is buffering microcontroller outputs to control relays, higher-power LED arrangements, or motors with higher currents than the controller itself can provide. In detector and measurement circuits, the BC547 can also replace more complex ICs when only simple amplification or a switching transition is required.
The collector may carry a maximum of 0.1 A. Higher currents require a transistor with a greater current capacity. In addition, standard microcontroller boards such as Arduino and similar devices can easily provide the required base currents, so no additional driver circuitry is needed.
