Product Description
The 1N4001 is a silicon rectifier diode used in power supplies, control circuits, and protection circuits. It conducts current in one direction and blocks it in the other. Designed for currents up to 1 A, it withstands reverse voltages of up to 50 V.
When conducting, the diode has a voltage drop of approximately 0.7 V, which must be taken into account when designing amplifier circuits or power supplies. Its low switching speed makes it ideal for mains frequencies, while fast switching processes require high-frequency diodes.
Typical applications include rectifying AC voltage in simple power supplies, decoupling parallel power sources, use as a flyback diode in relay circuits, and overvoltage protection for inductive loads. The diode is also frequently used for reverse-polarity protection when connecting batteries.
The DO-41 package allows easy handling in prototypes and when assembling circuits on breadboards. Higher current loads or reverse voltages above 50 V require other diode types. Correct polarity must be observed. The cathode stripe points toward the more negative side of the current direction.
Safety Information
The diode must not be operated with reverse voltage applied in the wrong polarity. This component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes, and is not suitable for installation in household electrical circuits. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
