Product description

A combined air pressure, temperature, and altitude sensor simultaneously measures several environmental parameters via the I2C bus. The module communicates with 1.8 to 3.6 V signal levels; connection to 5 V systems requires a level shifter between the power supply and data lines.

The sensor operates according to the principle of barometric altimetry, calculating the current altitude above sea level from the measured air pressure. Calibration is possible by entering a known reference altitude. Air pressure accuracy is approximately ±1 hPa, while the temperature measurement operates from −40 to +85 °C with sufficient resolution for weather stations and environmental data loggers.

Typical applications include weather stations that continuously record pressure and temperature, as well as portable altimeters for hiking and drone flights. The module is also frequently used in data loggers that store measurement data for later retrieval. If several of these sensors need to be queried simultaneously, the I2C bus is advantageous because they all connect to the same two lines and only one address per sensor needs to be configured.

An operating voltage of just 1.8 V is sufficient, enabling operation from low-voltage batteries or supercapacitors. Local calibration is required for altitude measurement if larger differences in altitude are to be resolved accurately. The module is supplied either as a bare sensor in an 8-pin package or already mounted on a breakout board with connectors, simplifying wiring.
