Product description

The Hall-effect current sensor measures direct current and alternating current up to 20 A with galvanic isolation. Measurement is performed via an analog output voltage that changes proportionally to the measured current. The output voltage at zero current is 2.5 V; each ampere of increasing current raises the voltage by a specified amount. This allows direct connection to analog-to-digital converters on microcontroller boards with 5 V logic without level shifting.

The galvanic isolation of the Hall sensor means that the input circuit and measurement circuit are not electrically connected. This enables safe use in circuits where strong interference signals or high-voltage applications are present. The output voltage changes actively with current fluctuations and is powered from the supply voltage; external filters are not required.

The sensor is suitable for current measurements in battery management systems, where accurate detection of charging and discharging currents is critical, or for monitoring motor drive current consumption in robotics projects. It can also be used in laboratory environments to troubleshoot power consumption in custom-built devices, because the analog output voltage can be evaluated directly on common boards.

To measure current, the current-carrying wires are routed directly through the sensor's plastic housing. Operation requires a power supply in the range of 5 V to 5.5 V; supplies outside this range are not permitted. For stable operation, a regulated power source is recommended. Measurement accuracy is typically around plus or minus 1.5 percent of the measured value; accuracy improves as the current increases.

Safety information

The sensor is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits or connection to mains voltage. Its use is limited to prototypes and testing and development purposes in low-power circuits up to 20 A. Work on or directly next to existing electrical installations must be performed by qualified electricians; if you are unsure about safe circuit integration, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
