Product Description
The infrared reflective sensor consists of an emitter diode and a phototransistor that operate side by side in the same housing. The emitter diode emits infrared light, a surface reflects it, and the phototransistor detects the amount reflected. The closer the object or the brighter the surface, the stronger the return signal.
A comparator (LM393) integrated on the circuit board compares this signal against a threshold that can be adjusted via a potentiometer. When the signal exceeds the threshold, the digital output switches. At the same time, the raw analog signal is available at output A0, from which the approximate distance to the object can be read. This dual functionality enables both quick yes-or-no decisions and more finely resolved measurements.
The sensor is suitable for tracking black lines on a light-colored surface, detecting obstacles in mobile systems, and as a limit switch that stops movement as soon as an object appears in front of the sensor. It also reliably detects reflective materials such as paper. Its detection range of up to 50 mm is sufficient for compact robotics projects and prototypes.
The module operates with supply voltages between 3.3 and 5 V, so it connects directly to microcontroller boards and does not require a separate level shifter. The four pins for power, ground, and both outputs connect to the circuit via standard pin headers. If you want to mount the sensor securely, use the two holes to attach it with screws.
Safety Notice
The module is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits and is intended solely for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or in the immediate vicinity of electrical installations requires a qualified electrician; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
