Product Description
Three microswitches on a breakout board enable reliable position detection in mechanical systems. Each switch has its own digital output and operates at 12 V, providing greater switching potential than typical 3.3 V or 5 V logic. Querying them with microcontroller boards therefore requires a level shifter to reduce the 12 V signals to the control unit's safe input voltage.
The mechanical switch contacts respond to direct pressure or actuating mechanisms and do not have an active sensor; activation occurs purely mechanically. This makes them resistant to dirt and electromagnetic interference, but requires physical components such as end plates or actuators for activation.
Typical applications include position detection in 3D printers, detecting movement limits in mechanical robots, and safety monitoring of barriers and gates. Endstop switches are also used in CNC machines and conveyor systems to move axes to safe parking positions or prevent collisions.
An external 12 V power supply is required for operation. The voltage must be converted to the control system's input voltage before connecting it to the microcontroller, as directly connecting it to 3.3 V or 5 V inputs will cause damage. The board therefore requires additional electronics in the setup.
Safety Information
The switches carry 12 V and must not be connected directly to control inputs with a lower voltage level without an intervening level shifter. This module is intended exclusively for prototyping and testing and development purposes and is not suitable for use with household electrical installations.
