Product description
The 2SC5200 is an NPN power transistor used in switching amplifiers, audio power amplifiers, and switching regulators. The transistor amplifies currents up to 15 A and withstands voltages of up to 230 V between the collector and emitter. With a typical gain of 100, a relatively small base current can be used to drive larger loads.
Power dissipation can reach up to 150 W under operating conditions. Adequate cooling is therefore essential, especially under continuous load or at higher currents. The robust TO-3 metal package allows direct mounting on heat sinks. Without cooling, operating time or current loads should be significantly reduced to prevent overheating.
The transistor is used in audio power amplifiers to drive speakers, in switching regulators for DC voltage conversion, and in high-frequency amplifiers. This type is also regularly used in older and modern DIY switching amplifiers.
Suitable power supply is required for operation. The base drive requires a current source or voltage divider, depending on the circuit design. A series resistor at the base input limits the base current and prevents damage to the transistor. Consult detailed circuit documentation before assembly.
Safety note
Reverse polarity or overcurrent can destroy the transistor immediately; significant heat is generated during operation, and contact with short-circuited contacts or hot components must be avoided. This component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. When working on circuits or if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
