Product description
The PWM driver for 16 servomotors and LED applications simplifies the control of multiple motors or output channels from a single microcontroller. The module uses an I2C interface for communication, meaning that only two data lines are required to connect it to the controller. Since multiple drivers can be addressed on one I2C bus, up to 62 modules can be operated in parallel, theoretically allowing control of more than 900 channels.
The 12-bit resolution enables 4096 levels per channel and ensures smooth movements for servos as well as flicker-free brightness adjustment for LEDs. The frequency range from 24 Hz to 1526 Hz covers typical servo requirements and also allows higher-frequency PWM for LED dimming. The operating voltage of 3 V to 6 V makes the module compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V systems, but mixing voltage levels requires careful attention to the power supply for the connected loads.
Typical applications include multi-axis robotic arms, where each joint requires a servo, and animatronic projects with distributed servo control. The 16-channel driver is also a suitable solution for LED lighting installations with color changes and effects. At a frequency of, for example, 50 Hz, standard RC servos can be controlled within the expected range, while higher-frequency modes remain available for other applications.
The board requires an external power supply for the connected loads, separate from the power supply for the driver electronics. Operation requires a development environment with I2C support; driver libraries are available for common platforms. The maximum current load per channel is documented in the datasheet and must not be exceeded.
Safety information
The module is not intended for installation in household mains circuits and is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. When powering servomotors and other loads, ensure that the correct voltage level is used to prevent damage. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
