Product Description
The module receives data from passive 125 kHz RFID transponders and outputs the detected tag ID via a UART interface. Communication is serial, allowing the module to be connected directly to microcontroller boards without requiring additional decoders. The reading range is approximately 4 to 12 cm, depending on the transponder and surroundings.
The module operates with a 5 V power supply and outputs detected tags as ASCII strings that can be processed by the microcontroller. Since no external antenna is required, installation effort is reduced to a minimum. The repetition rate enables several tags to be read quickly in succession.
Typical applications include access control systems, in which RFID cards or key fobs are detected from a short distance, as well as inventory systems and attendance tracking. The module can also be used as a component in robotics projects to guide autonomous vehicles to station identifiers. In home automation, it serves as a card-based door opener.
In addition to the 5 V power supply, the connection requires at least two data lines to the controller's UART interface. Boards with 3.3 V logic require a level shifter for the data input to prevent damage. An external power supply is required; USB ports on development boards usually provide too little power for reliable operation.
