Laser lens for P3 (3.81 cm)
Description
Laser lens for xTool P3
The focusing lens is located in the laser module of the xTool P3 and focuses the beam on the material. Its focal length determines how small the focal spot becomes and through what material depth the beam remains focused. This determines what your machine excels at: fine detail or deep cuts.
The P3 comes from the factory with the M lens (2 inches). It is the all-rounder for everyday use. If you regularly reach its limits, add a second focal length: The S lens with 3.81 cm produces the smallest focal spot and therefore the finest engraving. The L lens with 6.35 cm keeps the beam focused through a greater depth and cuts thick material more cleanly.
Both focal lengths are available here. Focusing lenses are wear parts: Smoke, soot, and heat gradually cloud the surface, causing scattering and reducing usable power. Replacing a clouded or damaged lens is therefore also worthwhile.
The variants compared
| Feature | S: 3.81 cm | L: 6.35 cm |
|---|---|---|
| Focal length | 3.81 cm (1.5 inches) | 6.35 cm (2.5 inches) |
| Spot size according to the manufacturer | 0,14 x 0,16 mm | 0,18 x 0,20 mm |
| Strength | Finest details and resolution | Deep cuts and thick material |
| Depth of field | Low, material must lie flat | Large, forgiving of material thickness and unevenness |
| Typical task | Photo engraving, fine text, jewelry, nameplates | Solid wood, thick acrylic, series cutting |
| Lens curvature | More curved than M | Flatter than M |
The following sections are for displaying technical product information for both variants only. Select the purchasable product variant above in the product section.
S laser lens: 3.81 cm focal length
The short focal length for maximum detail sharpness
The S lens focuses the beam to the smallest focal spot the P3 can achieve. Fine lines remain separate, small text stays legible, and gradients in photo engravings appear cleaner. This is the lens for work where every tenth of a millimeter counts.
The trade-off is a shorter depth of field. The focus is limited to a narrower range, so the material should lie flat and not be too thick. For cuts in solid wood, the L lens is the better choice.
Advantages
- Smallest focal spot in the P3 lens lineup
- Higher resolution for engravings and fine text
- Cleaner edges on small contours and delicate parts
- Complements the standard M lens without replacing it
- Original replacement part from xTool, precisely fitting the P3 laser module
Applications
- Photo engravings and detailed graphics
- Small font sizes, serial numbers, and QR codes
- Jewelry, nameplates, and personalization of small objects
- Delicate contours in thin acrylic, veneer, and cardboard
- Engraving on leather, slate, glass, and coated metals

L laser lens: 6.35 cm focal length
The long focal length for thick material and deep cuts
The L lens keeps the beam focused through a greater material depth. This keeps the energy density high even well below the surface, makes the cut edge straighter, and more often allows the cut to be completed in one pass instead of several.
The spot size is somewhat larger than with the S or M lens. It is therefore not the first choice for very fine engravings. For large-area engravings with a coarse structure, such as logos or lettering, it works faster because more area is covered per pass.
Advantages
- Greater depth of field for thick material
- Straighter cutting edges and less rework
- Fewer passes for solid wood and thick acrylic
- Faster processing of large-area engravings
- Original replacement part from xTool, precisely fitting the P3 laser module
Applications
- Cutting solid wood, plywood, and MDF
- Thick acrylic with the straightest possible cutting edge
- Plug connections and components that must fit exactly
- Series and batch production with many identical parts
- Large-area engravings with a coarse structure, such as logos and lettering

Important: The lens and holder must match
Each focal length has its own focusing lens holder. If the lens and holder do not match, severe defocusing occurs: The processing line becomes wider, the energy density drops, and the result is unusable. Therefore, always check the markings on the packaging and holder before installation.
If the marking is missing, the curvature provides guidance: The shorter the focal length, the more strongly curved the lens is. The order is S before M before L.
Handling and maintenance instructions
- Before carrying out any work on the laser module, switch off the xTool P3 and disconnect it from the mains.
- Only touch the lens by the edge and wear gloves. Use a clean cloth when putting it down.
- The convex side faces up. If you are unsure, hold the holder vertically under a light source: The side with the narrower reflected light strip is the convex side.
- To clean, first remove loose dust with a blower, then wipe in one direction with optical cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Always apply the cleaner to the cloth, never directly to the lens.
- Alcohol-based cleaning agents are flammable. Keep away from heat and open flames and store out of reach of children.
- After changing it, perform a test engraving or test cut on scrap material and check the focus setting.
- If the lens is cracked or heavily oxidized, cleaning will no longer help. In this case, replace it.
- The lenses are intended exclusively for the xTool P3.
