Product Description
The voltage inverter module generates an output voltage with the opposite polarity from a positive input voltage. This is necessary when a circuit requires both positive and negative supply voltages, for example to drive audio amplifiers or operational amplifiers in a symmetrical configuration. The device operates according to the switched-frequency converter principle and uses a charge pump for voltage conversion.
The output voltage takes the negative value of the input voltage, up to a maximum of -5 V at an output current of approximately 40 mA. The module is not sufficient for higher current loads; in that case, external circuitry or a separate voltage converter is required. The internal clock generator operates at approximately 10 kHz, but can be replaced by an external clock signal if a specific switching frequency is required.
The module is used in sensor circuits with operational amplifiers that operate around a symmetrical operating point, as well as in audio preamplifiers with low output voltages. Inverting a supply voltage is also common for generating reference voltages in instrumentation amplifiers or for driving comparators with asymmetrical input and output limits. In battery-powered portable measuring devices, the module enables the use of standard ICs that do not function without a dual supply.
Operation requires a stable input voltage between 1.5 V and 10 V; conversion does not work below 1.5 V or above 10 V. With continuous currents above 40 mA, the output voltage drops noticeably. The module requires a 10-µF capacitor at the input and output for stabilization; these are not included and must be purchased separately.
Safety Notice
The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations is reserved for qualified electricians; if you are unsure about the power supply, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
