Product description
An ambient light sensor makes it possible to respond to changes in brightness. The module uses an optical sensor that detects the visible spectrum and transmits the data to a controller board via I2C. Communication is digital, allowing multiple modules to be connected to an I2C bus and requiring only two lines for the data and clock signals.
The module operates with supply voltages from 3.3 V to 5 V, so it can be connected directly to common microcontroller boards without the need for level shifters. The 16-bit resolution enables measurements ranging from a dark room to direct sunlight, covering a range of 0 to 120,000 lux. Cross-calibration is not required.
Applications can be found anywhere ambient brightness is used to control devices or processes, such as automatic lighting adjustment for displays or LED strips, lighting control logic in indoor or outdoor areas, or the detection of day-night changes in data loggers and weather monitoring systems. For a simple example, all you need is the sensor module, a controller board, and some code to respond to changes in light.
The module requires no external components. You need an I2C-compatible controller board, connecting wires for VCC, GND, SDA, and SCL, as well as firmware support for I2C communication.
Safety information
The module is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits and may only be used for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
