Product Description
This converter bridges the missing serial interface on modern computers by converting USB signals into RS232 or RS485 levels. Devices such as industrial controllers, older measuring instruments, or data loggers that only have these classic interfaces can thus be connected to PCs or laptops.
The module uses optical isolation to provide galvanic separation between the USB side and the serial interface. This protects the computer from voltage spikes and interference from connected devices. Depending on the mode, the data rate is up to 921,600 bit/s, which is also sufficient for fast data streams.
Typical applications include controlling frequency converters and motor controllers in industrial applications, communicating with older laboratory equipment, and maintaining and configuring network switches and routers via their console interfaces. The converter also enables modern computers to operate CNC machines or printers with serial control.
The switch between RS232 and RS485 is located directly on the module, so no software configuration is required. Power is supplied via the USB connection, eliminating the need for a separate power supply. Devices on the serial interface side must be designed for 3.3 V or 5 V logic; the converter is not suitable for other voltage ranges.
