Product description
The sponge for soldering irons removes solder and flux residue from the soldering tip while the soldering process is underway. The porous material absorbs water and retains it long enough to cool and clean the tip when wiping, without the need for constant rewetting.
The sponge is soaked with water before starting work. After several soldering sessions, black discoloration appears on the surface, caused by oxidation and flux residue; this is normal. As long as the sponge still releases moisture when it comes into contact with the soldering tip, it will continue to serve its purpose.
In the project laboratory, such a sponge is used when multiple connections are made during a soldering session and tip quality needs to be maintained. The dimensions fit most soldering stands. Its resistance to heat input is sufficient for operating temperatures of the soldering station up to approximately 40 degrees Celsius; in the long term, repeated drying out can make the material brittle.
Safety notice
This sponge is not suitable for use in household electrical circuits or electrical installations. Despite its everyday appearance, it is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes within soldering stations. Anyone working with used or damaged sponges should consult a qualified electrician regarding the use of the soldering station.
