Product description
This soldering exercise demonstrates how a Graetz bridge rectifier works using a predesigned circuit. The PCB contains four 1N4007 diodes connected as a bridge rectifier, converting AC voltage into pulsating DC voltage. Once all connections have been soldered, the circuit can be operated directly with an AC voltage source and the result measured.
The input voltage is 5 V or 12 V in AC operation. The four 1N4007 diodes work together to use both half-waves of the input voltage. The output provides a pulsating DC voltage whose peak value varies depending on the input voltage.
The learning benefit comes from the direct interaction of soldering preparation, circuit assembly, and functional testing. Typical applications include understanding rectifiers in power engineering, powering DC loads from AC sources, or practical training in basic electronics. The PCB clearly shows how diodes complement one another in a bridge circuit.
The soldering exercise includes only the PCB and components, not an external power supply. An AC voltage source (laboratory power supply or function generator in AC mode) is required. A multimeter is needed to test the output voltage. The 1N4007 diodes withstand reverse voltages of up to approximately 1000 V, which is sufficient for this test application.
Safety information
The soldering exercise is not intended for installation in household mains circuits. It is suitable exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician; if you are unsure about the power supply or operation, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
