Product Description
This electromagnetic oscillator is a soldering exercise for beginners and advanced users who want to experience the interaction between electronics and mechanics in practice. After assembly, a pendulum swings through repeated magnetic field pulses generated by a capacitor-coil circuit.
The circuit uses the capacitor’s charging and discharging cycle to drive current pulses through the coil. These generate magnetic fields that keep the movable, magnetized pendulum rod swinging rhythmically. The system operates reliably at 3 to 12 volts DC and requires approximately 100 to 200 mA; a simple battery or small laboratory power supply is sufficient as a power source.
The soldering exercise is suitable for learning about components such as capacitors, coils, and relay-like functions, experimenting with oscillation frequencies by varying components, and demonstrating the basics of electromagnetism in student or hobby groups. The completed device functions as an autonomous swing without further adjustment.
A soldering iron, solder, and desoldering tools are required for assembly. Component placement and pin assignments are marked on the circuit board; replacement components must be obtained separately if damage occurs during soldering.
Safety Information
The soldering iron reaches temperatures above 350 °C and causes burns; ventilate well while soldering, as soldering fumes are produced. The device is intended exclusively for assembly and testing and is not designed for operation on household electrical circuits. Work on or in the immediate vicinity of electrical installations requires a qualified electrician.
