Product Description
The GPIO expander adds four additional digital inputs and outputs to a Raspberry Pi Pico. The module connects directly to the board's existing GPIO pins and provides them via male connectors, simplifying the simultaneous use of multiple components.
Thanks to its stacking capability, the module can be mounted directly on the Pico. The male connectors allow sensors, LEDs, relays, or other digital components to be connected without additional wiring components. If required, multiple expanders can be combined to further increase the number of available outputs.
Typical applications include prototypes with multiple LED controls, control circuits with several relays, and sensor arrays limited to a small number of available GPIO pins. One specific example would be an alarm system with separate signal lights and outputs for different trigger channels.
Operation requires an unused GPIO area on the Raspberry Pi Pico. A separate power supply is generally not required, as the GPIO logic is provided by the Pico. The load capacity per output is limited by the Pico's specifications, so power-hungry components must be controlled via transistor drivers.
Safety Information
This module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. When wiring components with higher power consumption, ensure that the Raspberry Pi Pico's maximum output load is not exceeded. If anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
