Product Description
This I2C expansion module provides eight additional digital inputs and outputs without using up pins on the microcontroller. It is suitable for projects that require more digital channels than the main controller provides or where the available connections are occupied elsewhere.
The module uses the widely used I2C protocol for communication. Up to eight boards can be operated on a single I2C bus using different addresses, which significantly reduces the need for cables and connectors. The operating voltage of 2.5 to 5.5 V enables use with various systems without additional level shifting.
Typical applications include controlling relay groups or LED arrays, detecting the switching states of multiple sensors, or connecting valves and switches in automated setups. One example is controlling a temperature regulator with multiple changeover outputs using a simple single-board computer system.
An I2C-capable microcontroller or single-board computer, an operating voltage in the range of 2.5 to 5.5 V, and the appropriate software library for the PCF8574 IC are required. I2C pull-up resistors may be necessary depending on the bus length and number of modules.
