Product Description
This preamplifier with dual NE5532 operational amplifiers amplifies weak audio signals to line level. The two independent channels allow two sources to be mixed or processed separately. As a universal amplifier, its gain can be adapted to the respective task by selecting suitable resistors to fit.
The module can be powered with 9 V or 5 V, opening up different application areas. At 5 V, the operating voltage is compatible with common development boards and single-board computers, while 9 V provides additional headroom for larger signal excursions. The NE5532 are audio classics and offer solid audio quality with low noise and low distortion.
Typical applications include preamplifying microphone signals to line level, adapting high-impedance sources such as piezo sensors, and amplifying magnetic pickup signals. In amateur radio applications, the module serves as the preamplifier stage for SSB modulators. The module can also be used as a buffer amplifier between high-impedance outputs and heavily loaded inputs.
The outputs typically provide an output impedance below 1 kOhm and can drive downstream audio power amplifiers or ADC inputs directly. Depending on the selected voltage, a regulated 9 V or 5 V power supply is required for operation. The exact circuit configuration, input impedance, and maximum achievable gain can be found in the included circuit diagram, as these vary depending on the model version.
Safety Notice
This module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. It is not suitable for installation in household electrical systems, television audio equipment, or other mains-powered consumer applications. When designing the circuit, ensure that the power supply polarity is correct; reversing the polarity may damage the module. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
