Product description
This inductive proximity switch detects metal objects without contact at a distance of up to 12 mm and switches an output. This makes it suitable for monitoring positions, controlling motion sequences, or detecting presence.
The sensor generates an electromagnetic field. When a metal part enters this field, its electrical resistance changes and the switch activates its output. Because only metals are detected, the approach of plastic or other materials does not trigger switching. The range of up to 12 mm is sufficient for compact mechanisms; with larger distances, the sensor reaches its limits.
Typical applications include end-position detection on linear motion axes, monitoring door position switches, or metal detection in manufacturing processes. A proximity switch of this type can also provide zero-point referencing for machine axes. The robust stainless steel housing with IP67 protection withstands humid or dusty environments and resists contamination without losing its sensitivity.
Power is supplied by an external power source providing between 10 and 30 V DC. The M12 connector is used for both power supply and signal output; a separate relay or microcontroller board must handle the switching task.
Safety information
This sensor is not intended for installation in mains power circuits. Use exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or in the immediate vicinity of the power supply must be carried out by a qualified electrician; if you have questions about commissioning, consult a qualified electrician before use.
