Product description
This charging module charges individual 3.7 V lithium-polymer or lithium-ion battery cells via a Mini-USB connection. The integrated MCP73831 circuit controls the charging process independently and automatically terminates charging when the final voltage is reached.
Power is supplied via any USB port or a 5 V USB power supply. The battery is connected via a two-pin JST connector, which is standard for commercially available small LiPo batteries. An LED indicates that charging is active.
The module operates completely independently: connect the battery, apply USB power, and charging starts. No microcontroller is required. At the same time, the module can easily be operated in parallel with a circuit powered by the same battery, allowing components to draw power from the battery while it is charging.
Applications include small portable devices that are regularly recharged via USB or robotic applications with single-cell batteries. The charging current is up to 500 mA. The module does not require an additional power supply; any USB port is sufficient.
Safety information
Lithium batteries must not be short-circuited or damaged and must be protected from extreme heat. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near the power supply must be carried out by qualified electricians; if you are unsure about proper use, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
