Description
IO BIT V2.0 - Expansion board for the micro:bit, horizontal adapter board
The IO BIT V2.0 turns the BBC micro:bit into a fully fledged experimentation platform. Simply insert the micro:bit horizontally into the edge connector, and all pins are then available as clearly arranged three-pin headers. Sensors, servos, and modules can be connected directly without having to attach individual wires to the gold contacts.
This makes the board particularly suitable for beginners in lessons and extracurricular activities. The connections are color-coded by signal, positive, and ground, making incorrect connection virtually impossible. A buzzer and a jack socket are already on board, so you can start audio projects right away.
Highlights
- All usable micro:bit pins brought out as three-pin GVS connections
- Color coding in yellow, red, and black prevents incorrect connection
- Buzzer on pin P0, which can be switched on and off using a slide switch
- 3.5 mm jack socket for headphones or external speakers
- Power supplied via the micro:bit or an external USB connection with 5 V
- 3.3 V and 5 V connections with up to 1 A, allowing 5 V sensors to be used as well
- Resettable fuse and short-circuit protection on board
- Power switch with indicator light
- The micro:bit's edge connectors remain accessible for crocodile clips
- Two LEGO-compatible holes for installation in models
Benefits and applications
- Lessons and extracurricular activities with the BBC micro:bit
- Quick connection of sensors, LEDs, relays, and small servos
- Music and sound projects using the buzzer or jack output
- Robotics and model-building projects with LEGO-compatible mounting
- Operating 5 V modules that the micro:bit alone cannot power
- Projects that are frequently reconfigured and need to remain stable

Package contents
- 1x IO BIT V2.0 expansion board for the micro:bit
Notes
- The micro:bit is not included.
- When powered only through the micro:bit, the current should remain well below 200 mA per connection. Larger servos and motors require the external 5 V power supply.
- With an external 5 V power supply, the total current must not exceed 1 A.
- To use P0 as a normal input or output, switch off the buzzer using the slide switch.
- Pins P3 to P11 share resources with the micro:bit's LED matrix. Disable the matrix in your program when using these pins.
- Pins 19 and 20 are reserved for the I2C bus and cannot be used as normal IO pins.
- 5 V sensors only work when the board is powered externally with 5 V.
