Product description
An LED chaser light is a classic soldering exercise in which several light-emitting diodes are combined in a circuit so that they light up one after another. Varying the resistors and capacitors creates the characteristic chasing effect. The project is excellent for learning soldering techniques, as it remains manageable and provides immediate visual feedback.
The function is based on an astable multivibrator or similar oscillator circuits that switch the LEDs on with a time delay. Depending on the version, the color spectrum can be selected to create different visual effects or distinguish multiple projects placed next to one another. All versions require an external power supply, as this is not included.
The LED chaser light is used in educational projects, for example as a first step after soldering individual components. Demonstrations of basic electronic principles in schools or maker spaces also frequently use the effect. Hobbyists install similar circuits in decorative lights or use them as a starting point for variations with more LEDs and more complex timing patterns.
For operation, a power supply with the appropriate voltage is required in addition to the selected version. The exact requirements depend on the particular component configuration and should be checked before assembly.
Safety information
The LED chaser light is intended exclusively for prototyping, testing, and development purposes and is not suitable for installation in the household electrical system. For power supplies above 12 V or operation with mains voltage, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning. Observe the polarity of the LEDs and power supply to prevent damage.
