Product Description
The brass nozzle is the central wear component of a 3D printer using 1.75 mm filament and directly determines print quality. It is screwed into the printhead and functions by being heated to the printing temperature. As plastic passes through, solidification fronts and frictional heat are generated and must be transferred evenly into the material.
Brass offers two key advantages here. Its thermal conductivity is approximately ten times better than that of steel alternatives, creating a stable temperature gradient in the print zone and preventing quality fluctuations caused by local overheating. At the same time, wear is significantly lower than with carbide, so the nozzle lasts longer before scratches impair the surface finish. Multiple opening cross-sections are available; thicker lines require larger diameters, which increases the throughput speed.
In practice, the nozzle is used with standard plastics such as PLA or PETG, where the process windows are relatively broad. More demanding materials such as filled plastics or carbon-reinforced types also benefit from the thermal conductivity because they are less prone to clogging. However, the finest prints with microdetails require the smallest diameters, which limits the maximum printing speed.
The nozzle is replaced after the printhead has cooled, using a wrench. Regular replacement requires a suitable ratchet wrench or pliers. Compatibility is limited to printers with a threaded printhead mount for this design. Adapters are available for many common models but are not included.
Safety Notice
The nozzle is heated to over 200 °C during operation and can cause burns. All work on the printhead must be carried out only after it has cooled sufficiently or while wearing protective gloves. This component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and operating private 3D printers, not for industrial manufacturing systems.
