Product Description

This two-color LED combines two light-emitting diodes in a 3 mm package and enables red and blue to be controlled via just two connection pins. The available variants differ in their electrode configuration: in common-anode versions, both colors share a positive connection, while common-cathode types share a common ground. The color variant selected determines the purchase and must match the target circuit.

With separate series resistors, each color can be dimmed independently, allowing any mixed color from pure red through magenta to pure blue to be generated. Operation typically requires 2 V per color and approximately 20 mA of current; two resistors limit the current to the correct value and reduce the load on the control logic. These LEDs are used wherever a color status indicator needs to fit into a limited space, in narrow housing windows of models, in display panels with dense LED arrays, or in learning projects with limited wiring. A single LED pin of a microcontroller can control each color when digital PWM outputs are available.

For continuously operated applications, a preliminary durability test is recommended, as aging can affect brightness and color value over time. The exact service life depends on the design and operating current.
