Product description
These IDC insulation-displacement connectors enable a reliable electrical connection of ribbon cables and individual wires directly, without prior stripping. When the wire is inserted, an integrated blade penetrates the insulation, creating the electrical connection at the same time as the mechanical attachment.
The 2-pin connectors fit standard IDC pitch dimensions and enable row mounting, allowing multiple connections to be arranged compactly side by side or one above another. Supported wire cross-sections range from 0.5 to 1.5 mm², covering many conventional ribbon-cable and individual-wire applications. No calibration or adjustment is required.
Typical applications include parallel interfaces such as parallel ports on older computer systems, IDE cable connections in classic computer setups, industrial control cables, and compact connection solutions in prototypes where repeated stripping is time-consuming. Insulation-displacement connectors also save work steps in measurement-data cables and laboratory applications involving frequent cable changes.
For reliable operation, the wire cross-section and clamping force must be correct; wires that are too thin or too thick can result in poor contact or damage. A multi-use connector is subjected to greater stress after its first use and should not be repeatedly changed without checking the contact quality. The connection remains mechanically stable as long as no additional network EMC requirements apply.
