Product description
The Smart Car is a line-following vehicle for developing sensor and control algorithms. It consists of a two-wheeled plastic chassis with two independently controlled electric motors that drive the wheels through gears. This makes it possible to handle curves and turns by using different motor speeds.
The infrared sensors detect the contrast between a black line and a light-colored surface. Their output signals are available in analog or digital form, allowing them to be connected directly to the digital or analog inputs of a microcontroller board. The motors are controlled via MOSFET drivers on the same board.
The chassis is powered by four AA batteries. Typical applications include autonomous vehicles on predefined tracks, such as course routes or transport lines in warehouse simulations. The fundamentals of control loops can also be explored in practice by having a sensor measure the deviation from the line while the controller adjusts the motor power accordingly.
Assembly requires basic knowledge of electronics. The vehicle is supplied without batteries for the battery holder and additionally requires a microcontroller board and a motor driver IC for controlling the motors. Black-line tracks must be purchased separately or built yourself.
Safety information
The vehicle is intended exclusively for assembly, testing, and development purposes and is not designed for continuous operation or outdoor use. Batteries and the motor driver IC must be connected with the correct polarity and operating voltage; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning. Children require supervision when handling small parts and batteries.
