Product Description
The NEO-6 GPS module is used for precise positioning via satellite navigation. It receives signals from the GPS network and calculates latitude, longitude, and altitude from them. The UART connection makes it easy to connect the module to the serial port of a microcontroller or single-board computer.
The module requires an operating voltage of 5 V and consumes approximately 45 mA during operation. The EEPROM memory stores configurations and navigation parameters, allowing the module to retain the most recently used settings after restarting. An external active antenna (included or available separately) significantly improves signal reception, especially in unfavorable environments such as between buildings or under dense tree cover.
The module is suitable for unmanned quadcopters and other drones that use flight control systems such as APM or PX4. It can also be used in robotics projects with autonomous navigation or in stationary data loggers that need to record GPS timestamps. A precision agricultural tractor could use it as the basis for automatic lane guidance.
Reception requires a clear line of sight to the sky and takes several minutes after a cold start; the module then operates faster. Additional components are required: a 5 V power supply (typically a voltage regulator when battery-powered), UART interface cables to the microcontroller, and the development environment for the flight control board or microcontroller to read and process the module's output.
Safety Information
The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. It is not suitable for installation in household power circuits. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician; if you are unsure about the power supply or connection, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
