Product Description
The flyback driver is a switching module for driving high-voltage coils with up to 300 W of switching power. It controls the energy buildup and controlled discharge of highly inductive loads, such as those found in ignition systems, high-voltage generators, or induction heating elements.
The module operates according to the flyback principle: one or two MOSFETs build up energy in the coil during the switch-on phase. When they are switched off, the stored energy is released on the secondary side. The integrated gate driver controls the switching processes at up to 100 kHz. Logic input signals of 3.3 V or 5 V trigger the PWM control directly.
Typical applications include high-voltage generators for ignition modules, plasma generation in laboratory setups, and controlled induction heaters. The module is also suitable for driving large relay coils or generating high-voltage pulses for discharge experiments. It plays a central role between the control signal and the load, particularly in high-frequency switching applications with controlled pulses.
Operation requires an external supply voltage for the coil (typically 12 to 48 V). A function generator or microcontroller with a PWM output generates the control signals. Flyback diodes on the secondary side are necessary to limit the voltage; a snubber capacitor or clamp diode limits voltage spikes. The maximum stored energy per cycle depends on the inductance; at 1 mH and 20 A, it reaches approximately 0.2 J.
Safety Notice
The output voltage of this driver can reach several kilovolts. High-voltage connections must be fully insulated and enclosed; contact can be fatal. This module is intended exclusively for prototyping and development purposes. Work on or near high-voltage circuits must be carried out by a qualified electrician. For voltages above 50 V AC or 120 V DC, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
