Product Description
A diffuse-reflective infrared proximity switch detects objects without contact at distances of up to 50 cm. The sensor operates using reflected infrared light. The device emits light, and as soon as an object reflects it back, the output switches. Unlike sensors with a reference reflector, this model works without additional components as long as the materials to be detected are sufficiently reflective.
The NPN output provides a digital signal that can be connected directly to 5 V microcontrollers, relay modules, or on-off logic. The built-in LED provides a visual indication of the detection status. Adjustable sensitivity allows adaptation to different surface properties and distances.
These sensors are used in automation technology, for example to detect workpieces on processing machines or to monitor fill levels in containers. They are also suitable as door opener triggers or for position detection in robotics projects. In stable environments without strong interference from ambient light, the sensor operates reliably.
Some low-reflectivity plastics or rubbers may be more difficult to detect. Strong infrared sources (sunlight, halogen lamps) can affect detection reliability. Operation requires a 5 V DC power supply and, depending on the application, a pull-up resistor or downstream switching module.
Safety Information
This module is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits and is exclusively designed for prototyping, testing, and development applications. Work on electrical installations must be performed by qualified electricians; if you are unsure about safely integrating the module into existing systems, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
