Product description
An audio amplifier based on the TPA3116D2 is suitable for digitally powering active speakers or driving passive speakers with an impedance of up to 4 ohms. It operates with a 12 V DC power source, which must be obtained separately. The module processes line-level audio signals from sources such as microcontroller boards or audio DACs. The amplification can be configured using external resistors; the board therefore includes solder pads for adapting it to the respective project.
The integrated amplifier IC achieves a maximum output of approximately 100 W with 4-ohm loads in mono-channel operation. The module is also available for stereo applications. The board requires a heatsink at high continuous power levels to dissipate heat. If the input signal falls below the 20 mV threshold, the automatic mute function is activated, reducing noise.
Applications include desktop audio systems, device amplification for portable speakers, notification sounds in embedded projects, and educational audio experiments. The module can also be used as an amplifier stage in larger audio systems, connected between the signal processor and speaker. The board handles stereo signals from single-board computers or sound cards with a line-level output without preamplification.
A stable 12 V DC power source with sufficient current capacity is required, such as approximately 8 A at full output power during operation. The RCA input accepts mono or stereo signals up to a maximum of 2 V RMS; higher levels require a voltage divider. A heatsink is necessary when the amplifier board itself is used intensively to prevent overheating.
Safety notice
The board is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not suitable for operation with mains input voltages. When connecting an external power supply, the polarity must be observed, as incorrect polarity will cause the module to fail immediately. Before commissioning, ensure that the power supply and speaker load are connected correctly. If you have questions about installation and operation, consult a qualified electrician.
