Product description
This expansion board connects a Micro:Bit to sensors and actuators via standardized Gravity connectors. The board breaks out the pins of the microcontroller board and provides four interfaces, two of which are I2C buses, while two support analog or digital pins. This allows a single Micro:Bit to operate several modules simultaneously.
The I2C bus allows multiple sensors to be connected to the same two pins, saving the available lines. Digital inputs detect switching states, while analog inputs measure voltages between 0 and 3.3 V. The Gravity connectors are keyed and redundant-free, preventing incorrect connections. Power is supplied via the Micro:Bit battery or a USB connection; an additional external power source is not required.
Typical applications include environmental measurements with multiple sensors in school projects, robot control systems with combined inputs and outputs, and data loggers that record temperature, humidity, and light values in parallel. Actuators such as motors or LEDs can also be controlled. The board is particularly suitable for scenarios where a compact system is to be created without soldering.
A Micro:Bit (version 1 or 2), the appropriate firmware, and a compatible development environment such as MakeCode or MicroPython are required. The Gravity modules used must operate at 3.3 V. Differences in voltage or connector pin assignments from other manufacturers then require a separate level shifter or adapter.
