Product Description
This robot chassis provides a mechanical base for two-wheel-drive vehicles. The transparent acrylic chassis is driven by two geared motors, while a freely rotating caster wheel on the underside serves as the third support point and keeps the vehicle balanced while driving and cornering.
The geared motors operate with 3 to 6 V DC. The integrated gearbox converts the motor speed into a wheel speed suitable for driving. The wheel axles feature encoder discs with slots or holes that are detected by an optical fork sensor, enabling the microcontroller to determine the distance traveled and speed and adjust the motor power accordingly.
The base plate is covered with mounting holes to accommodate an Arduino or similar control boards, a motor driver, additional sensors, and a battery holder. This flexibility eliminates the need for custom constructions. Typical projects include line-following robots that follow a drawn path, vehicles that detect and avoid obstacles, or remote-controlled models.
For standalone operation, a motor driver module for controlling the motors, a microcontroller for processing sensor data and controlling the motors, and a battery or rechargeable battery as a power source are still required. The suitable driver IC and power supply depend on the selected control board.
