Product description
This Bluetooth Low Energy module wirelessly transmits data from the microcontroller to smartphones, tablets, and other BLE devices without requiring the controller itself to implement the protocol. The CC2541 chip establishes the wireless connection, while a serial interface handles control.
Data is sent to the module via the UART pins RXD and TXD and then forwarded wirelessly. The STATE pin indicates whether a connection is currently active. The supply voltage is between 3.6 and 6 V, while the internal logic operates at 3.3 V. With 5 V microcontrollers, the module's output levels must therefore be raised to 5 V using a level shifter, while the inputs can be connected directly to 5 V UART because the chip tolerates 5 V signals on RXD. At the standard baud rate of 9600 baud, the module provides transparent data transmission.
Configuration is performed via AT commands through the serial interface, for example to select the baud rate, device name, or operating mode as master or slave. A button on the board activates configuration mode. Typical applications include remote controls in which an app controls a device, reading sensor data on a smartphone, or exchanging data between two of these modules. With a range of up to 60 meters, the module is suitable for home automation or spatially distributed monitoring within an apartment or house.
A BLE-capable counterpart such as a smartphone or tablet with a suitable app, or another BLE module, is required. In standby mode without an active connection, power consumption drops to 400 to 800 µA, making battery-powered applications possible.
Safety information
The module is not suitable for installation in building power circuits and is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. The module will be damaged by voltages above 6 V or incorrect polarity, so check the power supply lines before connecting. Questions concerning electrical installations must be referred to a qualified electrician.
