Product description

This current sensor uses the Hall effect to detect AC and DC currents without contact. The measured current flows through an integrated conductor path in the sensor, generates a magnetic field there, and is converted into a proportional output voltage. The galvanic isolation between the measuring circuit and the evaluation electronics enables safe measurements without an electrical connection to the load.

With no current flowing, the output is 2.5 V (with a 5 V supply). For every ampere flowing through the module, the voltage changes by 66 mV, increasing or decreasing depending on the direction of the current. The current can be calculated from this deviation by using an analog-to-digital converter in the microcontroller.

In motor control applications, the sensor immediately shows how much current the motor draws, which can be used for overload monitoring or adaptive control. It also enables the detection of fault currents in order to trigger protection circuits.

The module is connected to the control board using a 3-pin pin header. The circuit to be measured is routed through the 2-pin screw terminal. A microcontroller with an analog input is required to evaluate the voltage changes.

Safety notice

The module is not intended for connection to household electrical installations. It is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
