Product description
433 MHz radio modules enable wireless point-to-point communication between microcontroller systems. The frequency lies in the worldwide ISM band (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) and does not require a radio license. The transmitter and receiver operate with a 3.3 V or 5 V power supply and can therefore be connected directly to common development boards.
Data is transmitted digitally via a serial interface. The receiver outputs received bits on the data output, while the transmitter accepts data on the serial input line. In open areas, the modules achieve a range of approximately 100 to 400 meters, depending on the antenna system and surroundings; indoors, the distance is considerably reduced. For longer distances or better wall penetration, frequencies in the UHF range are more suitable.
Applications include wireless sensor systems, such as collecting temperature or humidity measurements from multiple rooms at a central receiver station, as well as remotely controlling switches and relays over short distances. 433 MHz communication is also used for wireless remote control in mobile robots. For private residential alarm systems, window or motion sensors can be connected wirelessly to a central unit.
Serial data transmission is handled in the microcontroller's program code; simple digital signals on the transmitter side are output without further modulation and must be configured according to the application. For operation, both modules must be connected to the serial data lines and the power supply. Interference from other devices in the 433 MHz band (garage door openers, wireless switches) may occur and should be mitigated through coding or frequency hopping.
Safety information
The modules are intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. They must not be connected to the electrical wiring system of a building. Work on or near electrical installations is reserved for qualified electricians; if you are unsure about the correct power supply or operation, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
