Product description
This electrolytic capacitor is used to buffer and smooth voltages in power supplies and to decouple loads from the power source. With a capacitance of 220 microfarads and a rated voltage of 10 volts, the component is suitable for low-voltage applications, such as microcontroller boards or analog circuits with operating voltages up to 10 volts.
The capacitor stores electrical energy and releases it during voltage drops, smoothing supply spikes and buffering supply gaps. The radial leads enable direct mounting on printed circuit boards without modifications. If the applied voltage exceeds 10 volts, there is a significant risk of damage to the component; the polarity of the connections must be observed, as reverse polarity will cause the capacitor to fail.
Examples of applications include switched-mode power supply output filters for stable 5-volt or 3.3-volt supplies, decoupling capacitors next to IC power supply inputs to reduce interference, storage capacitors for LED control with short current pulses, and flash capacitors in digital flash circuits. In camera-internal flash trigger circuits, such a capacitor is charged and rapidly discharged when required.
Safe use requires precise knowledge of the actual applied voltage and correct installation. The applied voltage must not permanently exceed 10 volts. For power supplies whose voltage range is below 10 volts, no separate check is required; however, for voltages close to the rated value or in case of uncertainty, the datasheet should be consulted before designing the circuit.
Safety information
Correct polarity must be observed when soldering; a charged capacitor can discharge when its terminals are short-circuited and may heat up in the process. This component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; for voltages above 30 volts DC or 42 volts AC, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
